A scar on the face is often not a texture problem but a colour problem: the scar is paler than the skin around it, so it shows in every photo and every mirror.

Skin camouflage places finely matched, skin-toned pigment into the scar so its colour moves closer to your own skin. In the beard or eyebrow area we can instead recreate the look of hair follicles, the way we do on the scalp.

Face scars we treat

  • Pale scars after surgery or a facelift
  • Scars from accidents, falls or injuries
  • Cleft-lip scars
  • Scars in the beard area, camouflaged as stubble
  • Scars through the eyebrow, filled with hair-like strokes

Colour matching is the whole craft

Skin is never one colour. We mix and test shades against your skin in daylight, then deliberately place pigment slightly lighter than we expect to need — skin pigment can always be built up, but it is very hard to take away.

Because skin tone changes with the seasons, we plan sessions away from strong sun and ask you to protect the area for the weeks around each one.

What camouflage can and cannot do

Camouflage changes colour, not shape. It works best on scars that are flat and paler than the surrounding skin. Pitted acne scars, raised scars or scars that are still red are not suitable — those are better helped by a dermatologist first, and we will tell you so.

When your scar is ready

  • At least 12 months old
  • Paler than the surrounding skin — no longer red or pink
  • Flat and smooth to the touch
  • Not prone to keloid scarring

Frequently asked

Honest answers

Will it look like make-up or a tattoo?

No. The pigment sits under the skin and is matched to your own tone. Done well, the scar simply becomes less noticeable — nobody sees colour, they just stop seeing the scar.

Can you hide a scar in my beard?

Yes. In the beard area we place small dots that look like stubble, so the gap in your beard closes visually. This works best if you keep your beard short.

Does it hurt?

We use a numbing cream. Most people describe it as a light scratching. The area can be slightly red for a few days afterwards.

What if my skin tone changes in summer?

Tanned skin can make a camouflaged scar look a little lighter again, which is why sun protection on the area matters. A small top-up session can fine-tune the colour later if needed.
