Aftercare Guide: Do's and Don'ts After SMP

The first 10 days are critical. Sun, sweat, swimming, products — here is exactly what to do (and avoid) to lock in your results.

Why Aftercare Matters

The pigment deposited during your SMP session needs time to settle into the skin. The first 7–10 days are critical. Following these guidelines ensures your results heal evenly, retain their intensity, and last as long as possible.

Days 1–4: The Healing Phase

During the first four days after your session:

  • Do not touch, scratch, or rub the treated area.
  • Avoid water on the scalp — no showers above the neck, no swimming.
  • Do not apply any products (shampoo, moisturiser, sunscreen) to the scalp.
  • Avoid exercise, saunas, and anything that causes heavy sweating.
  • Sleep on a clean pillowcase and avoid sleeping face-down.

Days 5–10: Settling

Light exfoliation may begin naturally as the skin heals. Do not peel or pick at any flaking.

  • You may gently rinse the scalp with lukewarm water (no shampoo yet).
  • Continue avoiding direct sunlight on the scalp.
  • Light exercise is okay, but avoid heavy perspiration.
  • From day 7, you can use a mild, fragrance-free shampoo.

Long-Term Care

After the initial healing period, SMP requires virtually no maintenance. However, a few habits will help preserve your results for years:

  • Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen to the scalp whenever exposed to the sun. UV is the #1 cause of premature fading.
  • Moisturise the scalp regularly to keep it healthy.
  • Avoid abrasive exfoliants or chemical peels on the treated area.
  • Book a refresh session every 4–6 years if you notice any lightening.
